Neo-Cubist or Deconstructivist painting with the traces of influence of Pablo Picasso and Lucian Freud. The subject of the portrait was known and refined from such earliest examples as Fayum portraits in Roman Egypt that it will be hard not to find analogous and mutual interactions between Fayum Portraits and early cubism by Picasso between Picasso and Nicholaas Chiao. Yet the painting of Nicholaas Chiao is quite a distinctive treatment of the beautiful female form with big well-outlined lips and dreamy eyes. The woman who inspired this portrait is the childhood friend of the artist named Anastasia.
