Artwork Description:
This striking neo-cubist painting is the portrait of the father of the artist Nicholaas Chiao. He is depicted as tired and nearly dreaming in the kitchen of their apartment. The artist uses a palette of warm colors together with accents of bluish strokes to create a nearly pointillist effect of beautiful interplays of blue, yellow, and ochre. The artist's father is a special and controversial figure for Nicholaas Chiao, their relations are not formed consistently and vary from mutual acceptance to times of strong disagreements. This portrait depicts human form as geometrized, faceted, and distorted, and surrounded by the notion of radio waves which is noted in the majority of neo-cubist works of Chiao.
